“Entangled Worlds” at Bradley University

Three drawings from the “Entangled Worlds” series are now on display at the Hartmann Center Art Gallery at Bradley University. Each of the drawings is over twenty feet in length – and composed of adjoining sheets of 30″ x 22″ paper. This series was first exhibited at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts in Michigan. The Bradley show closes February 19th.

New Visual Arts Building January 2012

We have started classes in the new University of Wyoming Visual Arts Building. The classrooms and spaces are great. The light is incredible. This is going to be a wonderful place to work, create, and teach for many years. Here are several images of the new facility:

The construction fencing has come down now – allowing for unobstructed views of the new facility. Here are a few from this morning.

Here are several shots of the new University of Wyoming Visual Arts Building. The department will moving in soon – and classes will start in the new facility this spring 2012 semester.

Reception and Talk for the Goodstein Gallery, Casper College Show

Here are a few images of the exhibition currently up at the Goodstein Gallery at Casper College. The exhibition consists of nine drawings from the Ebb and Flow series and nine from the Edifice series. The talk and reception on Monday were well attended. It was good to connect with the faculty and students at Casper College – and fun to see the work in the newly renovated and upgraded gallery space.

Former Student Moves to Istanbul

A former student of mine from the University of Wyoming, Gabrielle Reeves (BFA 2009), moved to Istanbul at the beginning of this summer. Gabby was part of my first Summer in Turkey class in 2008 – and traveled again (with Andrew Parker and Sarah Dahlinger – also both part of that first 2008 trip) through Turkey in the summer of 2010. Gabby, Andrew, and Sarah joined up with my 2010 Summer in Turkey class for the last week in Istanbul – attending critiques and other events. Now Gabby has taken the big leap to become an expat artist in Istanbul.

New Series: June 2011

Here’s a current shot of the studio with Ebb and Flow #13 in progress in the middle…and the new, as yet untitled, series on the floor. This series – though reaching a resolution this summer – actually was begun nearly six years ago. The gessoed paper pieces have gone through many versions, acquiring more and more history during the process. I have pulled them out between and during other series and projects…worked on them…gotten frustrated, confused, or bored…and then put them away. Finally now after working on the Ebb and Flow series for over a year – the solution for this older group of drawings has begun to come into focus.

Media: graphite, china marker, Prismacolor pencil, gesso, and acrylic paint.

Size of each piece: 24″ x 19″.

Here are a couple images of “Ebb and Flow #10″. This is an ink and gouache drawing…as opposed to most of the other drawings in this series which have been graphite, prismacolor, and ink on Mylar. This drawing combines my typical choice of media for my plein air travel drawings in Turkey with the subject matter of my studio work. Click on the images below for a higher resolution version.
